WMI or Windows Management Instrumentation is a component of the Microsoft Windows Operating System which provides management information and controls programs in an enterprise environment. Windows Management Instrumentation Provider Service known as wmiprvse.exe was first introduced in Windows XP OS, and later in Windows 2003 OS. WMIPRVSE is a host process that is related to Windows Management Instrumentation or WMI provider services. It was released to stop the concerns of failure of WMI provider service in Windows 2000 Operating System where failure of a single WMI would cause total failure of all other WMI services. As a result, only a single WMI provider service will be affected with the new WMIPRVSE program. This fixed the previous problem of automatic computer restart process when WMI failure appears in Windows XP and Windows 2003 OS.

The Wimprvse software is an vital part of the operating system for its security and stability . As default it is running smoothly in the system, but is vital to see where the wimprse.exe is located and what folder it is running from. An healtly operating system often requires various accounts to run wmiprvse.exe, and it is normal if you see multiple wmiprvse.exe running in the same time in Task manager.

Wmiprvse.exe application is always placed in the systems32 folder of the Windows system. The  path is C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem. If you observe that wmiprvse.exe is running from outside of the systems32 folder, then there is a huge possibility that your computer is infected by a Trojan  or a Virus. Different spyware or malware programs are hiding under the wmiprvse.exe pretext. PC users often don’t realize that the wmiprvse.exe could a malware since it is a common Task Manager process and malware origin may not be observed immediately.

It is recommended to verify the running processes and where their origin folder to see if your computer is infected with a wmiprvse.exe malware. A lot of hackers use wmiprvse.exe Trojans and Malware Programs to penetrate the system’s security and gain access to other network computers. The result could be perilous starting from system errors to complete system failure which causes the irreversible computer crash.
