What is Iexplore exe application versus Iexplore.exe Virus

The file IEXPLORE.EXE is the executable (exe) file of the most known Internet browser from Microsoft Corp, Internet Explorer.

Using the Ctrl+Alt+Del keyboard combination on your Windows system (or click-right on your task bar and choosing Task Manager), you will open the Task Manager. When your Internet Explorer is open you will see the task “iexplore.exe” running on the Processes tab.

If you observe this process active in the Task Manager even when Internet Explorer is not running, or if you see two or multiple instances of this “iexplore exe” running processes when you open the IE browser, and one of these tasks using 90-95% of your processor, then it is nearly sure that your computer is infected by a trojan or a virus. Resulting in frequent iexplore error messages, crashes and your PC’s performance will decrease considerably.

Be aware if you see other alike processes running in the TM : lexplore (written with un-capsed L), Iexplorer, Ieexplore, etc. These are trojans too!

How to protect my system from Iexplore.exe Virus

In the following sentences I will clarify you how Iexplore virus can the penetrate your system and how to prevent these unpleasant problems.

One of the most known malware that can insert the iexplore virused file in your OS is a Backdoor Trojan. This is the most widespread and perilous kind of Trojan virus. It will provide to its “creator”the remote administration rights of the infected systems.

The backdoor Trojan will install, launch  and run invisible or ghost instances on the victim computer without the knowledge of the user. Also the trojan virus can send, delete and do files, collect confidential information or copy the log activity on that system and send it to its master. Besides it runs in the background and can’t be detected by a regular system check-up process.

To detect the Backdoor Trojan, run a powerful antivirus with an updated database and a spyware removal tool.

In order to protect your computer from backdoor trojan infections and prevent any further iexplorer.exe errors, I recommend to follow the preventive tasks listed below:

  • Don’t open attachments or click links that come with unsolicited emails, because the e-mail is one of the most used way to install backdoor viruses on computers these days.
  • Don’t visit or download files from untrusted or suspicious sites.
  • In a regularly base update your antivirus program and anti-spyware tool with latest definitions to be sure that your PC is always protected against the latest viruses, backdoors, spyware or any other malware.
  • Turn on your computer’s and network’s firewall and install anti intrusion tools to prevent any unauthenticated access to your computer or computer network.
  • Always keep your computer updated with the latest security patches from the Windows Security Center.
  • Change often your passwords to minimize the hurt that can be caused by virus and backdoor infection.
  • Disable services such as FTP server, Web server, and Telnet if you don’t use these on your computer, because they are like a gate at your system to malicious attacks.
  • Set your email filters and email server to reject email attachments with specific extensions, such as .scr, vbs, .pif, and .bat that are frequently used to plant viruses in computers.
  • Regularly scan your computer’s registry, to keep the system registry clean from any malicious entries that can be related to the iexplore.exe virus file and other legitimate looking malicious entries inserted by trojan backdoors.

I also invite you to proceed to a free scan below to find what other problem could appear in your system. Maybe it is running silently, upon a day…

Don’t forgot preventing is simpler and cheaper  than curing.
